Savannah Giammarco is a 17 year-old student attending Mercy High School where she is an honor roll student. Savannah’s family immigrated to the United States from Italy and she is a first generation Giammarco in the U.S. She has a dual citizenship with Italy. Savannah plans to pursue a career in Neuroscience, with a specialization in cognitive and transformational studies.
Like many, Savannah has been badly bullied for her weight. After a few years of constant teasing she lost 30 pounds, yet the teasing continued. She then realized that as long as she was healthy (not overweight or underweight) then that was all that should matter. She began to live by the phrase #strongisthenewskinny and embrace her athletic build. Savannah continues to speak with girls about having a positive body image and leading a healthy and happy lifestyle.
She describes herself as philosophical, fearless, and loyal. Some of her hobbies include singing, acting, eating unusual foods, listening to heavy metal music, and horseback riding where she has been ranked in the Top 50 in the U.S for show jumping and Top 10 in Connecticut for her division.
A charity Savannah works closely with is The American Lung Association. For the past five years Savannah has been actively involved in promoting COPD awareness and advocating for the Northeast division. This year, she had the opportunity to act as the on air spokesperson for the “Fight for Air Climb” (a stair climb to raise money and awareness for all debilitating lung diseases). She spoke with Connecticut legislators about progress in studies of lung disorders as well as the general public on local television stations.
A couple of interesting facts about Miss Connecticut Teen USA 2015 are:
1. Savannah’s favorite movie is Top Gun! This movie is the reason Savannah hopes to get her pilot’s license someday.
2. Savannah’s food of choice is Mozzerella Burrata. It is so hard to get in the U.S., but Obica in NYC imports it from Italy!
Savannah Giammarco will represent Connecticut as she competes in the 2015 Miss Teen USA pageant that can be seen webcast from Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas on Saturday, August 22nd.
Should Savannah win the Miss Teen USA Pageant, she would begin meeting with local and national media outlets for interviews and appearances. As Miss Teen USA, she would spend her reign championing teen issues as well as giving back to those in need throughout her reign. In addition to using her voice to connect with teens regarding issues like bullying and self-esteem, Miss Teen USA spends her year volunteering with key partners like Best Buddies and Project Sunshine
The Miss Connecticut Teen USA pageant is produced independently by Pageant Associates (Sanders & Associates, Inc.), under license from Miss Universe LP, L.L.L.P., which is a Donald J. Trump and NBCUniversal joint venture.
